The first step of making a character is to choose a race. There are five to choose from:
A player's chosen race will affect which skills they can buy at discounted rates, what their costume will look like and what their attitudes to the world around them are.
Each race then has a few sub races to choose from;
Risen- Frankenstein, Mummy, Banshee
The Player then has 200 points to spend on Skills. These may be taken from their chosen Sub Race’s skill tree, or the generic skill tree.
All player characters are part of the Guild and as such have a department that they are part of. This is separate from cells, and relates more to the type of work you typically do in the Guild. With the recent increase in threat, the Guild has worked on specialist training programs and equipment for their employees based on what they seem to most need. As such, you will gain a free skill from the Department that you choose. If you change Departments, you will lose the free skill from your old Department, as your focus shifts. The ones available to players are as follows, with more information about them on the Guild page:
Risen Affairs Agency (RAA) - Gain Shield against Magic
Werewolf Affairs Agency (WAA) - Gain Shield against Silver
Vampire Affairs Agency (VAA) - Gain Shield against Flame
Fae Affairs Agency (FAA) - Gain Shield against Cold
Criminal Investigation Department (CID) - Gain Interrogator
Crime Scene Investigators (CSI) - Gain Investigator
The Department of Arcane and Existential Investigation and Research (DAEIR) - Gain Immunity to Sleep
Supernatural Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) - Gain Dodge (If you already receive Dodge as a free skill from your race, gain Dodge 2)
Personnel and Resources (PR) - Gain Locate
After choosing a Race, Sub Race and Skills, it’s time to create a backstory for the character. How did they join the Guild? How do they feel about the other races? What are their goals? The characters background can be as long as you want and may be included in the games overall plot or how NPC’s interact with you.
Some Characters may wish to group together. In game, they are said to be part of the same Cell.
The Guild has learnt a lot of training techniques to ensure all agents are equipped for field missions, as such after each event the total XP every player has for their character increases by 20. This is not limited to that character, and is the amount the player has available to spend, as such new characters either through new players or re-rolls will have the new total listed at the top of this page. Each new skill cost is taken from either the main skill cost list, or their racial list if that cost is cheaper.
