Determiner

ডিটারমাইনার (Determiner) হলো এমন কিছু শব্দ যা কোনো Noun (বিশেষ্য) বা Noun Phrase-এর আগে বসে সেটির সংখ্যা, পরিমাণ, নির্দিষ্টতা বা অনির্নির্দিষ্টতা বোঝাতে সাহায্য করে, অনেকটা Adjective-এর মতো কাজ করে; যেমন: a, an, the, some, many, few, this, that ইত্যাদি। 

ডিটারমাইনারের কাজ: 

• সংখ্যা বা পরিমাণ: Two books, many people, little water.

• নির্দিষ্টতা: The book (নির্দিষ্ট একটি বই), this pen (এই কলমটি).

• অনির্দিষ্টতা: A boy (একটি ছেলে), some students (কিছু ছাত্র).

উদাহরণ: 

• A: boy is playing in the field. (একটি ছেলে মাঠে খেলছে)

• I have some money. (আমার কিছু টাকা আছে)

• Give me the pen. (আমাকে কলমটি দাও - নির্দিষ্ট কলম)

প্রকারভেদ (প্রধানত):

ডিটারমাইনারকে সাধারণত কয়েকটি ভাগে ভাগ করা যায়, যার মধ্যে রয়েছে: 

1. Quantifiers: 

   • Countable (e.g., apples, chairs): Many, few, a few, several, a number of, fewer, both.

   • Uncountable (e.g., water, time): Much, little, a little, less, no.

   • Both (Countable & Uncountable): Some, any, all, most, enough, a lot of, lots of, no, more, less (less with uncountable, fewer with count). 

   • Distributives: each, every, either, neither

2. Articles: a, an, the.

3. Demonstratives: this, these, that, those.

4. Possessives: my, our, your, his, her, its, their, sadik's etc.

5. Numbers: one, two, first, second.

   • Cardinal Numbers: Indicate how many.

Examples: Zero, one, two, three, four, ten, thirty.

Sentence: I have two apples.

5. • Ordinal Numbers: Indicate position or order.

Examples: First, second, third, fourth, next, last, ninth.

Sentence: She won the first prize. 

5. • General Ordinals: last, next, other, the other etc.

6. Interrogative Determiners: What, Which, and Whose.

• What: Used for general information or identity.

Example: What color is your car?

• Which: Used to ask for a specific choice from a limited group.

Example: Which of these shirts do you like best?

• Whose: Used to ask about ownership or possession.

Example: Whose keys are these?
