This subject expands on the knowledge and skills learnt in Year 9 Materials and Design Technology WTA. While it is not essential to have completed the Year 9 course, it is strongly advised. Students will aim to apply the same design process at a more advanced level. Students will work on individual projects which will be re-designed based on an existing product. The class will work on projects that allow students to implement their own design ideas to suit their end-user’s requirements. Emphasis will be placed on design, craftsmanship and safe workshop practice. Students will mostly use timber materials and be prepared to use or investigate the possibility of allied materials such as such as textiles, plastic, metal, glass. Students will have the opportunity to use C.A.D & C.A.M systems (CNC routing) to enhance the products they make. Examples of projects could include small furniture eg: lamps, shoe racks, chairs, desks, tables.
