Foundation Mathematics class will be offered to students who have experienced considerable difficulties with Mathematics in Years 7 and 8. Foundation Mathematics will provide students with an opportunity to consolidate essential mathematical skills and to apply these to practical situations in everyday life. It aims to rebuild student confidence in learning mathematics so that they may reintegrate into mainstream Mathematics in the future. Foundation Mathematics replaces mainstream Year 9 Mathematics. Topics covered may include Number and Patterns; Space and Shape; Measurement and Design; Handling Data and Probability; and Problem-solving.
Enrolment into Year 9 Foundation Mathematics is by application only. Successful applicants will demonstrate a commitment to improving their performance in mathematics; have a recommendation from their Year 8 Mathematics teacher and/or their Year 8 Coordinator; show evidence of experienced difficulty in learning Mathematics through CAT and NAPLAN results at Year 7 and 8; and demonstrate an ability to maintain high behavioral standards throughout their enrolment in the subject.
