Units 1 & 2
Students deepen their understanding of the French language and the diverse cultures of French-speaking communities. Through topics like personal identity, future dreams, education, and the environment, students build real-world language skills. They’ll analyse films, stories, conversations, and visuals—learning how language and culture shape the way we see the world. Students experience the language through a range of texts, interactive tasks, and meaningful reflections. This course is for students ready to connect with the world through language.
Government policy encourages the study of languages; each language is adjusted upwards by additional points to the initial study score average.

Please note: Students interested in studying a language that is not on offer on-campus at Frankston High School should enquire with a Careers Counsellor on how to enrol in another language study. This may be via virtual education or face-to-face tuition. Students need to be independent learners and be committed to working closely with their teachers at the Victorian School of Languages (VSL).

Units 3 & 4
Students refine their ability to interpret, express, negotiate, and persuade in French across engaging topics such as identity, media, health, history, and the Arts. They’ll analyse visual, spoken, and written texts, while exploring how language and culture shape meaning. Learning is brought to life through activities, texts, and creations. Students reflect on the practices, products, and perspectives of the Francophone world, gaining fluency and cultural insight. This course empowers students to use French with confidence in real world contexts.

The level of achievement for Units 3 and 4 is also assessed by an end-of-year examination.
