UNIT 1
Students learn that politics involves how political actors use power to resolve conflicts and shape the way society functions. They explore the concept of power by examining why it is used and how it is exercised, with a focus on the actions of both national and global political actors. Particular attention is given to the consequences of their use of power. Students then investigate the influence of global actors, who operate across national and regional boundaries to pursue their interests and collaborate with others to address conflicts, issues and crises.
UNIT 2
Students explore political actors who operate beyond national and regional boundaries to pursue their interests on a global scale. Through inquiry based learning, they engage in political thinking by examining the power, interests, and perspectives that shape global actors’ responses to key issues. Students explain how ideology and interests can drive global political actors toward either conflict or cooperation. They analyse the power of various global actors and assess how global interconnectedness influences that power, ultimately evaluating the political significance of these actors.
Assessment tasks may include the following:
A political inquiry
Analysis and evaluation of sources
Extended responses
