Export Messages (Facebook)

How to export messages from Facebook?

I don't know why facebook have not given easy export features, so we have to think outside the box for such solutions. There are different ways to approach it. I used a few of such methods to export it which I will explain below:

(Solution 1)

Via Facebook.com (Official Method)

  1. Go to Facebook -> Settings -> Your Facebook Information -> Download Your Information
  2. Choose Date Range of your choice, Select "HTML as Format and Media Quality as MEDIUM
  3. Uncheck all other options except "Messages" and then click "Create File".
  4. You'll get email notification of download requested and then will receive email in few minutes/hours in zip format.
  5. Find your spouse's Facebook handle/username
  6. Print chat logs with photos (you can even convert HTML to PDF using free online convention tools. e. g. HTML2PDF and later select which pages to Print)

(Solution 2)

Via CellPhone

I also once used "Exporter for Facebook - Backup,Print,Export PDF" app. It's very easy to use, but it may have more features in in-app purchases (in-app cost £4.29 per item)

(Solution 3)

Via Google Chrome Browser Extension "Message Saver for Facebook"

  1. Go to ChatSaver.org and Download and Extract Extension ZIP file in your computer.
  2. Open Chrome Browser and go to More Tools -> Extensions ... and enable "Developer Mode" on top right corner.
  3. On same Extension page, click "Load Unpacked" and locate directory where you have extracted Extension page.
  4. Now go to Messenger.com, select your spouse's chat and click on Light Blue Extension Logo and select "First Date" and "Last Date" of chat logs.
  5. After few minutes, chat messages will be extracted in form of plain HTML (with no photos).
  6. If you want chat logs with media as well, you have to pay $3 to enable those options in that extension.
