Charles William Thomas ROGERS
(1877-1966)
ROGERS, CHARLES WILLIAM THOMAS (b. Richmond, Vic, 5 May 1877; d. Surrey Hills, Vic, 24 June 1966). Anglican clergyman.
Rogers was educated at Hawthorn College but not for any particular profession. He was Reader at Yea from 10 Sept 1898 and probably read for ordination 'on the job'. He was ordained deacon by Bp F F Goe (q.v.) on 2 June 1901 and priest on 25 May 1902 by Bp T H Armstrong of Wangaratta for Melbourne (that see being then vacant). After a curacy at St Stephen's, Richmond, his parish appointments were, Gippsland: Yarragon (5 Jan 1904), Korumburra (25 April 1917); Melbourne: St Michael's North Carlton (15 Feb 1913), Adelaide: St Luke's, Whitmore Square (30 June 1922), Melbourne: St Augustine's, Moreland (8 Feb 1932), St Barnabas', Balwyn (29 April 1942). He retired in 1949. Rogers married Miriam Clara Lee on 18 Oct 1904. They had two sons and two daughters. She died on 28 Sept 1942.
Rogers was a steadfast evangelical of the old school. He was a man of prayer, a warm pastor and a faithful visitor. He carefully prepared his confirmation candidates and took a special interest in encouraging young men. He devoted himself to the parish ministry hut was also involved in CMS, CEBS (he was one of the founders in 1913) and the Evangelical Trust, both in SA and Vic.
