Elizabeth ROBSON

(nee BRODIE) (1836-1876)

ROBSON, ELIZABETH (NÉE BRODIE) (b. Portsoy, Banffshire, Scotland, 1836; d. Murrurundi, NSW, 11 Aug 1876). Methodist hospital visitor and preacher.

Daughter of a devout mother, at an early age Elizabeth gave her life to God. A member of the Free Presbyterian Church, she engaged in Christian work, including visiting the sick. Later she joined the Baptist church and actively worked in the 1864 revival. Elizabeth emigrated in 1865. On board ship she expounded the Scriptures. She settled in Muswellbrook where she taught in Sunday school, commenced a night school for neglected children, and visited the hospital. In 1869 she joined the Wesleyan Methodist Church. Later she was precluded from visiting and preaching in the hospital because of Roman Catholic opposition. In 1873 she and her husband, Michael, moved to Cope's Creek, Inverell, where they opened their house for prayer. Later she returned to Murrurundi. She was cheerful and generous, and her delight was to proclaim, 'Unto you who believe, Christ is precious'.
