Reginald Desmond JOYNT

JOYNT, REGINALD DESMOND (b. Melbourne Vic, 21 May 1885; d. England, 1946). Anglican clergyman and pioneer missionary.

Joynt was one of the three founding missionaries of the CMS Roper River Mission Arnhem Land, which started in 1908. Living conditions were so difficult that he was the only one left in 1910. Circumstances at the mission did not improve until the Rev H E Warren arrived in 1913 and took charge of the work. Joynt continued his ministry at Roper for the next 15 years. He was made deacon in 1918 and priest 1 Dec 1921. He left the mission in 1928 and resigned from the CMS in 1930. He continued his ministry in England until his death there in 1946.
