Reading passage John 20: 11 – 18
Dear Brethren,
Greetings to you in the Mighty Name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. During this month of Easter we mediate upon the Post Easter events every Friday and Sunday. No one in the world has ever promised that they would be back to life after death except our Lord Jesus Christ. As we saw earlier, the enemies believed in his resurrection but the followers fully forgot what He had said earlier.
Mary Magdalene
She is a very interesting character in the Bible and her name has been mentioned in all four gospels. She was there near the cross when the Lord was crucified, and she was there when the Lord’s body was taken and buried in the tomb. And here in this reading passage, we understand that she was the one to see the risen Lord at first.
John records that early in the morning she was the one to come to the tomb and saw that the stone was rolled away and ran back to report to the disciples. Peter and John came and saw what she had told but they went home after a search. But she came back again to the tomb in search of the Lord’s body so that she could do the Jewish rituals for the dead. But at that moment she could see the angels inside the tomb. But she could not see Jesus standing just behind. I was still dark and she mistook him for the gardener and asked for Jesus’ body.
When Jesus called her by name she could recognize His voice. In ( John 10: 3-4), we read that the sheep know the shepherd’s voice. She immediately called Him “Rabboni” meaning the teacher. Yes, she became the first to see the Risen Saviour. We see her courage; even when men dared to go to tomb, her loyalty till the end above all her pure love towards the Lord who relived her from demons.
Jews were not allowed to call the Almighty God as Father. They were furious against Jesus because He called God his own Father (John 5:18). But here, we find a great relationship that was created at the death of Our Lord Jesus Christ that Jesus has made the believers the children of God. Earlier we were enemies of God (Romans 5: 10 ) but through our Lord we got adopted an have the privilege of calling God Abba Father ( Galatians 4:6)
Brethren, In fact we have nothing to boast about this free gift of this amazing adoption that cost the life of our Lord Jesus Christ. Are you still truthful to the Lord who is our heavenly Father? If we are away from the Lord’s presence we can re -examine ourselves and reach our Lord. (Colossians 1 : 21).
Prayer:
Loving Father, We thank you for adopting us as your children through the death of our Lord Jesus Christ. Thanks for sending your Son so that we get this inheritance. Help us dear in every walk of our lives till we reach home. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.
