9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.

Dear Brethren,
Greetings to you in the most endeared name of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Today's meditation focuses on the meaning of 'True Love'.
--Youth Retreat-1983-- Somewhere under the idyllic foothills of Western Ghats, South India --
"Who allowed this small boy for today’s message?", asked the Preacher. His sermon text was from Song of Solomon Ch.2 entitled 'Message of Love- for Married Couples'.
I had just turned -inquisitive- fourteen. Bewildered, - I turned again -, to question my likes in the youth group for none of them were married. The organizers of the Youth Retreat-1983 had mistakenly swapped the sermon text for the day. The Preacher received the sermon text as Song of Sol chapter 2 (for married couples) instead of 1 John 2:13 (for Youth). But he continued with his sermon...
-------
Nonetheless, being married and thirty-seven years on, I still thank God for the beautiful message preached on that day - 'of true love - pure and holy'. I remember the first question, he asked, Why has the Lord kept this poem of love in the Holy Bible? After many different answers, he concluded, that it was meant to stand, as a pure contrast between 'True love - Pure and holy' to a 'World of hate - Sinful and unholy'.
The Preacher further continued that the Lord had kept the church as His own bride. The Lord was preparing the church with perfect adornment and with wonderful perfumes. Moreover, he added that the depth of Christian love should be exemplified in church and followed in the christian family. God wants the christian family unit, to be seen, as an microcosmic example of His perfect love of unity and grace.
I remember, ten years ago, there was a three-day fasting prayer meeting, which was arranged in Chennai. The fasting prayer meeting was to entreat God for complete deliverance and end to the rising divorce rate in the protestant diaspora.
The Lord wants the bond of family love should be strong like that of Death.(Song of Sol 8: 6 -7). This negative metaphor highlights the depth and the strength of bonding and the commitment required in family relationship. The beginning of marriage life maybe sweet like honey and beautiful like the moon. But does it stay like that till the end of life’s journey or it breaks in-between? The Lord has purposely canonized the book of Song of Solomon in the Holy Bible to reflect and establish the wonderful union of love in the family.
Towards the end of the message, the preacher reflected on a literary piece - of the 'Doe and the Deer'. In the harsh day of scorching sun, a deer and doe were walking towards the water. The doe was pregnant and couldn't move further. So it laid itself on the ground. But the deer stood against the sun, so that his body shadow could spread over the doe and keep her from the scorching heat.
Jeremiah 31:3
The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.
True love is everlasting love. This means that there is no limit for God's love. He has paid a heavy price. Yes, he has taken the scorching heat and pain on himself, so that we may have relief. Though, we do not see him, we are still under the protection of his shadow. Shouldn't we worship our Lord for such infinite love that was demonstrated on the cross of Calvary. Yes, the TRUE LOVE had the greatest cost - His own DEATH.
Ephesians 5:25
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.
Psalm 91: 1
Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
Prayer
Loving Heavenly Father, thank you for every word of the Scriptures, which has a direct application to our lives, suggesting us to love good and to hate evil. Loving Lord, we pray for the family relations especially in the Christian world so that the true love may have its dominion in our lives. Let our family lives be strengthened just like the love of Jesus which is poured on His church. In Jesus Holy Name, we pray.Amen.
