Dear Brethren,
Greetings to you from Church of Christ the King, Libya. Kindly continue to pray that the Lord may open all churches here in Libya for his people to come together and worship him. All shops and coffee centers are open now but still we have not got the permission to open the house of the Lord.
In all three reading passages, we have today got a similar theme of the 'duties of the Servant of God'. The first reading portion speaks of a watchman who ought to blow the trumpet when the danger is near. If he fails to do so, then, he is held accountable for the destruction of the people. If he blows it and people ignore, it is the people’s fault and he is not responsible for that.
This is actually a simple example the Lord has given in this passage. The Lord also wants His servant as well as the congregation to be dutiful in their work. We know how the traffic signalling system works. If we abide by the signal that is pointing on us we are safe. Otherwise, we are in danger of any traffic accident or congestion. Again, vice versa, if the traffic police is negligent in his duty and we face problems he is under the law’s demand.
During the soft Christian era, we hardly find the warning messages coming from the pulpit. Rather the messages are quite warming that could simply ignore the law set by our Lord. In earthly ministry, we find that Jesus was whipping so strongly at the people of certain cities. He was stern against the Pharisees, Sadducees and the Scribes for they had deviated from the Lord’s law. They made their own law that could override the scriptures but that became so detestable in the eyes of the Lord.
Paul again was very much concerned about the people in the church at Corinth. In the first epistle, we find that he had never compromised with the sinful nature that was widely prevalent in the church. He was never looking for the people’s appreciation or reward. Rather he wanted to present what was really acceptable by the Lord. He was hard on their sins and therefore asked a question
I Corinthians 4:21
What do you prefer? Am I come to you with a stick or with a love in a spirit of gentleness?
In the Bible, we see many prophets being ill treated, imprisoned or even killed because they spoke the truth and rebuked the kings and nations for their wrong doings. They did not approve of their harmful endeavors. There was a prophet Micaiah who warned Ahab not to go on for a war, but he was imprisoned for telling the truth. I Kings 22: 8 and in the verse 27 we see him imprisoned with the reduced bread and water.
Dear Brethren, many a time, we love to hear the words of blessings and prosperity, we hate correction and warnings. This is a dangerous situation in the Christian life. The Lord’s words are given for the following purpose
2 Timothy 3:16.
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
The blessings and prosperity are good indeed, but they follow when we are faithful to the commandments of God.
Prophet Jeremiah had a tough time in life because he was preaching to the Kings and the nobles with no compromise. He was even warning the people of the real war ahead but no one was ready to listen to him. Instead they dropped him deep into a well.
Jeremiah 38:6
So they took Jeremiah and threw him into the cistern of Malchiah.
The young prophet Zachariah was stoned to death because he was stern with the king for his wrong doings who was deviating the nation from the Lord. (2 Chronicles 22: 20, 21)
In the 19th century, we find preachers like Moody or Finney, those who brought the word of God to the people with no compromise. And that was the reason millions of people those who heard them committed their lives for the Lord. The words of blessings and prosperity were less in their agenda but the way to eternal life through Jesus was abound in their words.
Dear brethren, What’s our desire in receiving the word of God? Do we want the words to bend that would simply sooth and comfort? Or the words that would correct which would lead to the true blessings?
Let’s examine ourselves and May the Lord provide His words that would save us from the real danger.
John 16:8
And when He ( The Holy spirit) comes, He will prove the world wrong about sin and righteousness and judgement.
Prayer
Loving Father, Help us to listen to your words with the complete opening of our ear, heart, mind and soul. Let your words speak to us with all reproof so that we may be saved from the danger of the life here and the life in eternal. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.
