9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
Dear Brethren
Greetings to you from Church of Christ the King, Libya. Today's message is focuses on the topic "Delay".
In our lives, we give a lot of respect for the time. We want to reach to our work places on time. We expect various benefits of being on time. We expect our salaries on time. In 1982, my father was saved from a massive heart attack because the doctor arrived on time. He said, if the patient care had been delayed for another seven minutes, it would have been too late.
Man's Perspective on 'Delay'
Delay is the most hated element for us. The delay of flights can trouble us when we miss the connecting flight. The delay in traffic signals will infuriate us. The delay of monsoon, for just five days, brought a big weather havoc in Kerala, a few years ago. The delay of Friar Lawrence resulted in the death of the sweet and lovely couple in " Romeo and Juliet " . The delayed arrival of the British army caused thousands of Jews to die in the concentration camps during world War II.
God's Perspective on 'Delay'
Lets ponder, how our Lord views this particular moment called 'Delay'.
Ecclesiastes 3: 11
11 He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.
Two thousand years ago, Peter answered the scoffers by saying
2 Peter 3:8
But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
In God's sight, thousand years are like just a day and our Lord is patiently waiting for us to repent. He is not at haste in pronouncing judgement. If he does, no one will be able to live on earth. But he is patiently offering us the chance to repent and to set right the things which we have failed.
In the Bible, we see King Saul who had lost the blessings because he did not wait for some more time for the arrival of Samuel. In a haste, he did the Priest's job and that was his first fault which later dethroned him.
Many a time, we do things or take decision in a hurry and end up with heavy loss or regrets. But remember the word of God says in
Isaiah 40:31
" but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint".
Therefore, let's learn from the Lord of patience and wait upon Him for His Grace because the Lord's delays are intended to uplift us.
Prayer
Loving heavenly Father, we thank you for your Grace and patience towards us. Let us to be swift to repentance and be patient in waiting to receive Grace. In Jesus's name, we pray. Amen.
