Greetings to you in Risen Power of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. May the Risen Lord give us all grace to listen to His Words.
From the Bible, we know that Peter was an active disciple and his name means the Rock. In all four Gospels and in the book of Acts his name has been mentioned more than any other disciple. He was the senior most in age and he was the first person to do anything for the Lord. He was hyperactive he was trying to defend the Lord.
Later, when he was arrested and when he saw that he was outnumbered. He followed Him from a big distance ( Luke 22:54). His thoughts and mindset went behind the same old profession of fishing and he failed to seek the Lord’s advice in this regard. He forgot the vision and the mission the Lord had entrusted in Him, three years earlier. (The Fisher of Men in Luke 5:10)
Moreover, he thought that the fishing could benefit him and the other disciples as well at least for sustenance and being so hyperactive he called out the others to join him. On the other side, he had a family and he could be the bread winner too. Anyhow, all went in vain despite the hard labour through out the night and he came back empty handed.
But there at this point, Jesus was waiting for him on the shore. He neither discouraged him nor did He rebuke him rather asked him to spread the net on the right side and they did and got a lot of big fish amounting 153 that their net was about to break.
Jesus is the loving Lord who comes for our help at the most crucial time of our need and when all our hard work and toil seem to be a waste. Peter could recall the similar occurrence at the beginning of the ministry (Luke 5 : 1 - 10).
He is a caring Lord who arranged breakfast for them and all were happy again at the presence of the Lord. But the Mission was something very different that Peter would be the man of Spiritual Power and who would rock the synagogue and all in Jerusalem. Again, the mission of sharing the Heavenly Bread (John 6:33) was still ahead. Jesus enabled him to understand the lesson that without Him he could do nothing. ( John 15:5) anything that is concerning the Physical or Spiritual need.
In the Old testament Reading, we have seen the Spiritual Bread that is referred as the Word of God. The aforementioned situation has come and we are under lock down and unable to have any fellowship. But let’s thank Him at this moment because God’s word is not chained. ( 2 Timothy 2 : 9) despite the troubles. As many of us do not go for work let us be wise and meditate upon the word of God thus make use of the time. (Colossians 4:5).
The Lord knows all our need whether it is spiritual or physical. May he supply all needs to us and our families according to His riches in glory.
Prayer:
Loving Heavenly Father, We thank you for everything that you have for us. We thank you for sending Jesus as our heavenly bread. Thank you for the strength and prowess that you have endowed in us through Him. Help us dear Lord to take His words and apply in our lives. In Jesus’s name we pray. Amen.
