Greetings to you in the ever living name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
In the book of John, we normally find two elements reinstated every now and then. The faith and the eternal Life. Faith is a strong belief on something that we have not seen. Another explanation is to take an idea or instruction that we take without any doubt. Very often we see in Jesus’ miracles - he asked the person - “Do you believe?” and later “ Your faith has saved you”. Therefore, faith in the Lord has a great deal of bringing salvation, healing and later the eternal life.
In the life of Job, despite being in the most vulnerable situation, he expressed his faith in the Lord stating “My Redeemer liveth”. The disease, the pain, the loss of almost all properties, and the death of all his children never shook the faith that he had on the Lord and therefore he could restore everything back in double fold.
The second thing is about the Eternal Life. Almost all religions speak of a life after death. Some eastern religions suggest of rebirth that occurs according to the deeds we have done while we live on this earth. However, many religions have a common future inheritance of Eternal Life for which we ought to do good works and —based on that the eternal life could be gained. However, the Bible underlines as we read in
Ephesians 2: 8
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.”
Moreover in John points out that in his epistle in
I John 5:20
“We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true by being in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.”
Later we see in verse (Ephesians 2:9) that it is nothing by the works that anyone could boast about. The greatest payment for our eternal life was paid in the cross of Calvary by the Lord and by his blood we are thoroughly purified from all sins. I John 1:7.
If we read Hebrews chapter 11 we understand the heroes of faith. The whole chapter is called as the “West Minister Abbey” of the Holy Bible. This is a burial place of great heroes in English history. In Hebrews we find great men of faith who lived in the old testament era like Abel, Abraham, Moses, Samuel and so on. They all inherited the paradise through their unshakable faith in the Lord.
Now the question is where we have built our faith? On mortal men, on silver or gold, on powers and authorities? All this would pass away but when we have the faith built upon Christ who is the author and the finisher of the faithful race we shall have the eternal life to be with the Lord forever.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, Help us to grow in grace and to be increased in faith so that we will be the partakers of the eternal life you have kept for us through Jesus Christ. Make of tumbling hearts to be the strong towers to be built in you. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
