Greetings to you in the most comforting name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Our meditation focuses on God's special care for His children through their sufferings.
Greetings to you in the most comforting name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Our meditation focuses on God's special care for His children through their sufferings.
In the first reading, the Psalter remembers the sufferings the people of Israel, in Egypt. He lists out the signs and wonders shown before Pharaoh and his servants. In those days, the Egyptians believed that the pharaohs were the incarnation of god and their words are infallible. And God showed them that Moses was above the power and dominion of Pharaoh,. Moses was seen with a high esteem. So, the Egyptians were favorably disposed toward the people of Israel. (Exodus 11: 3)

Moses' life was a difficult life: narrowly escaped death sentence at the cradle; was the handsome prince of Egypt for 40 years; a shepherd in the wilderness of Moab; traveled back to Egypt to face Pharoah; led the people from Egypt for forty years. Therefore God regarded him as his 'True Servant' in His Temple.

In the recent times, the prosperity gospel has encroached the hearts of many Christians, with a false appeal, that those who believe will become rich and prosperous. Such agents may quote 3rd John 1: 2. But we must remember that the welfare of the soul precedes the benefit of prosperity.

Moses hesitated when God told him to go to Egypt. But he eventually decided to be with the people of God to fight on their behalf for justice. And he was rewarded highly by the God.

Jonah was a wonderful Prophet in Israel . His name is first mentioned in 2nd Kings 14: 25, where he used to work willingly for the Lord. God commanded him to go to the wicked town Nineveh with a serious message. Jonah hesitated because he feared danger. So, Jonah shifted his voyage to the opposite side. And we all know the consequences, he had to suffer.

In our lives too dear brethren, God has a great plan according to his wisdom. But when we turn away from his will, we may encounter danger and affliction. But remember, God is slow to anger and abounding in Mercy. ( Jonah 3: 2); Jonah could not understand that God is a God of mercy and forgiveness. The people of Nineveh and their king, humbled themselves and declared fasting for the whole state. God was merciful and gracious to the people of Nineveh.

They left all their comforts and luxury to bring gospel to the harsh lands. Many of them died of severe diseases, some of them were killed by the natives; yet, they accepted the tough climatic conditions and extreme poverty, to win many souls for the Lord. We are now reaping the harvest they had sown.

He built the masonry dam of Mullaperiyar dam that irrigates nearly 2.23 lakh acres of parched land today in rural India.

You may be looking for comfort zones. But be ready, God may send you to troubled zones. But our Lord promises to use us for his purpose, as his instruments towards the making of a wonderful landscape.

Loving Lord, help us to go and walk according to your guidance. Moreover, when you allow sufferings in our lives, help us to endure it for your glory. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.
