As a father pities his children; So the Lord pities those who fear him.
Gospel Reading: Matthew 7: 9-11
9 “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone?
10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?
11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!

Dear Brethren,
Greetings to you in the Redeeming name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus.
As we remember 'Fathers' Day', we have lots to say about our fathers who sacrificed a lot to bring us up in life. The letters from Nehru to his daughter Indira Gandhi is kept as golden treasury. These letters were written to her, from the prison camp, during the struggle for independence. Each and every line of those letters would carry wisdom, prudence and guidance to pave the way for a bright future.
When I was teaching in Kotagiri in 1997, a concerned father visited me. He insisted that it would be my responsibility to raise his son with all Christian principles, to love good and hate evil. (the concerned father was not a Christian but a local warlord in the North who wanted to see his son as a doctor saving lives)
Yes, every father likes to see his son or daughter raised above his own level. No father wants to his children in a low position. The children are so happy when the father's presence is around. They are happier, when the dad provides them the things they need. They are glad, when the father takes them out and they are joyous when dad entrust them with a great responsibility. However, no child is happy when the father corrects him or her. They become so sorrowful when their father punishes to correct.
Fathers won't punish the children in vain. They do it for the good of the child. And that he will be a good child in the future and won't involve in the unwanted activities. The scripture speaks of the loving Father who sometimes corrects us with His punishment.
Hebrews 12: 5- 6.
5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:
6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
The Bible speaks of Absalom, the wicked son of David, who wanted to seize the Kingdom. But, king David lamanted for his son when he was killed the battle. Till the very last moment, David wanted him to be saved but it was too late. However, in another incident, we see, the prodigal son of a rich landlord, who repented and came back. There were shouts of joy and a big banquet. The splendor of love of our Heavenly Father ( Luke 15: 32).
Prayer
Loving heavenly Father, what a great privilege that we can call you as our Father. Lord, we come back to you resigning all vice and malice. Help us to abide by your side all the time. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen
