This project analyzes the Texas Long Range Plan for Technology (2018–2025) developed by the Texas Education Agency. The plan was created through collaboration with an advisory committee of educators, district leaders, and technology specialists, and it is supported by an online Resource Center that provides templates, examples, and best practices for schools across the state.
The presentation compares the Texas plan to the 2024 National Educational Technology Plan from the U.S. Department of Education. The analysis highlights areas of alignment such as equitable access, personalized learning, leadership, and infrastructure, as well as divergences like Texas’s stronger emphasis on digital citizenship and security and the national plan’s greater focus on assessment and teacher professional development.
Based on this comparison, the project concludes with recommendations for strengthening the Texas plan. Suggestions include expanding assessment strategies, enhancing teacher professional development, reviewing the plan on a shorter cycle, preparing for emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and virtual reality, and leveraging national and federal resources.
This work demonstrates how Texas’s state plan both aligns with and extends the national vision, while also showing how targeted improvements can ensure a future-ready, resilient, and innovative approach to educational technology.
