For this assignment I chose Option 1 in Module 5 and created a digital lesson plan with Pear Deck focused on independent learning and digital citizenship. At first Pear Deck felt a little complex to use because I thought I would have to build every slide from scratch. I later discovered that Pear Deck includes an AI tool that can generate lesson slides, review questions in Pear Practice, and even an assessment at the end. I found this feature really interesting and something that makes the platform more accessible for teachers.
Using Pear Deck in this way was a cool experience because it gave me a better understanding of how AI can support lesson design. I am curious to see how the latency or lag would work in a real classroom with many students connected at once. I also noticed that the slides created by Pear Deck looked somewhat plain compared to the designs I usually make in Canva. Since I often use Canva to create engaging visuals, I would love to see Pear Deck integrate with Canva the same way it currently does with Google Slides.
Overall I genuinely liked the lesson that Pear Deck’s AI created and I can see myself using it in my classroom. I think it provides a strong foundation for teaching students how to verify sources and take ownership of their learning. At the same time, I believe it would be helpful to expand the content with more guidance on how to responsibly use generative AI if students are allowed to use those tools in class.
