Algolope worship celestial bodies, light and darkness, worldly emotion, the passage of time and growth, as well as Greater Dragons. This page lists their primary Deities, as well as information about member-created Gods.
Soley - The Sun God and the Patron to Algolope. Soley is considered the father of modern Algolope, a benevolent deity often taking the form of his children and keeping the world warm and lit. Soley is forever chasing his mate, Magena across the skies, but due to the interference of their son, Vespre, she was separated from Soley. Despite this, Magena continues to shine light in the darkness, in hopes to guide her offspring and allow Soley to find her.
Vespre - The Harbinger of Darkness, God of the Night. Vespre is the sole remaining offspring of the Gods Soley and Magena. The jealous and hateful spawn found his siblings as competition for his parent's attention, much less their creations, and as a result he hunted each of his siblings down, killing them in jealousy.
His mother, Magena, hoped to stop her rogue son but was trapped in his domain, causing the world to fall into darkness for half of the day. Vespre hopes to snuff out all life and be the sole object of attention for his parents.
Magena - The Mood God and the Matron to Algolope. She is considered the reason for mutations in Algolope, and often praying to her offers many beneficial effects. Those who posses mutations are often stronger or more specialized than their cousins, allowing them to achieve near anything they pursue. Magena is forever trapped in the darkness spread by her offspring, Vespre, though she offers her light to guide lost Algolope during the darkness.

Murkharth - The 'God' of paranoia/obsession/decay/loneliness
The creature called 'Murkharth' is believed to be nearly as old as the original three. He spurns Soley and the light of the sun but is afraid of what darkness brings. The moon is the only true light in his world. Murkharth is obsessed with Magena. In his eyes (or lack of them), she is as lonely as he and wishes to one day be with her. At nights he sings to her from deep within the mangrove swamp he calls home. The eerie songs can be heard from a long ways away and Murky here is often referred to as 'The Singer'.
Any Algolope who approaches during the day is met with extreme hostility, as Murk will claim that 'He' (assumed to be Soley) sent them to prevent Murkharth from seeing the moon. Anything that doesn't flee fast enough is eaten as he will keep up chase until reaching the edges of the mangrove.
When approached at night, however, Murkharth appears to be more at ease. He will willingly aid those who have mutations of any kind, as he sees them as the true daughters and sons of Magena, and in turn, as kin to him. Any Algolope traveling with one with a mutation in their party will be treated similarly, though it is not recommended to stay long. Murkharth will become increasingly agitated by a non-'Magena blessed', and will constantly chew on the necrotic part of his tail. He will become paranoid that the mutated Algolope is working with Soley or Vespre. In a wrathful rage Murkharth with drown that Algolope, dragging it down into the depths of the lake, and devour the rest of its companions.
It is unknown if the drowned are truly dead, as Murkharth can sometimes be heard talking to his 'kin' slumbering beneath the waters.
General Description:
A very large crocodilian-like creature. Its flesh appears to be discolored from decay with large, bony plates protruding along its head, neck, spine, and tail. Half of its tail appears to be in a state of necrosis, the tip looking like it once held a stinger not dissimilar to an Algolope. Murkharth is almost always covered in centuries old moss and vines. Appears to be blind.
NOTE: the chest 'teeth' are not teeth, but are just a boney 'frill' along the chest. Doesn't make them any less dangerous than teeth though! The red/orange coloration is also natural.
Location:
Murkharth resides in a large land locked lake within a mangrove swamp. This lake seems shallow enough to wade though but that is its deception. Its believed to be near infinity deep and riddled with extensive cave systems. The lake also is host to an unusual amount of bio-luminescent creatures like jellyfish and glowing mineral deposits, all of which are active mainly at night time. This unfortunately only drives Murks obsession of the moon further as he believes Magena herself placed them in the lake to ease his terrors of the night. Murkharth appears to be a massive amalgamation of bone and decaying plant matter floating on the lakes surface. The lakes surface is eerily still.

Aequinoctium - Matron of the Equinox - Runner of the Equator - Sanctuary of Life
Commonly referred to as "Mother Aequi", or simply "Aequi". Any and all pronouns can be used to refer to Aequinoctium, but they commonly are referred to with feminine terms otherwise, such as "Matron", "Mother", "Goddess", "Queen", and so on.
Mother Aequi is the god of the spring and fall equinox. In Spring, they wake from a winter-long slumber, covered in plant life, and in a single day they run around the equator, spreading plant life around the world until none is left on their back. He then slumbers in his resting spot, becoming an ancient, unfellable tree for the duration of summer. In fall, she wakes again, and takes one more day to race around the center of the world, this time plucking up the plant life and holding it on her back for safe keeping over the winter. It then goes to slumber in the same resting spot again, this time becoming a massive garden for the winter, which does not wilt or die despite the cold. In spring, ey wake again to start the cycle once more.
Their resting spot is considered their largest shrine. Smaller ones are placed all over the world, especially in farming-heavy villages in temperate climates, where people make offerings as thanks for the return of the crops each year, or in prayer that Aequi won't forget them, the latter being common in times of famine. Common things offered to the shrines include parts of conifer or succulent plants, fossilized amber, petrified wood, or other resilient pieces of nature well-known for always being there time and time again.
In some regions, the legend of Mother Aequi traveling the equator is a bit different - in these legends, she takes the spring from one side of the world and gifts it to the other side to keep balance. This version is more commonly told the closer one gets to the equator. Aequi's main resting place and shrine is located directly on the equator, and does not favor one side over the other.
There is another legend - this one told more in temperate areas - where if a hibernating animal sleeps near a shrine to Aequi, the animal is sure to be safe and sound come spring.
No matter the region, Aequi is seen as a goddess of constants, they are always there, year after year, no matter the bounty or hardship. Mother Aequi will always be there to give life sanctuary.

Uakho - demi-god of trickery and lies. He is never seen in the same form twice and is rumored to still be among the algolopes, causing mischief.
When the first littler of algolopes was born, the gods came to bless the kits. The eldest was given the gift of speed; the second born was given the gift of compassion; the third born was given the gift of wisdom. These three kits were meant to be groomed as the leaders of their future race, and the gods were proud of them. Unbeknownst to the gods, a fourth kit was born in the middle of the following night. He was very tiny and seemed unlikely to live. By that time, the gods had already left the family alone to grow, and thus the runt of the litter never received his blessing.
As he grew, the runt algolope had to find ways around the obvious advantages of his siblings. He couldn't outrun the eldest, but he could hide. His childhood was spent learning to outwit his siblings in order to survive. The runt had to resort to trickery to stay on his feet and manipulation to keep food in his belly. After all, he was not a blessed child of the gods, like the rest of the litter. This was something that he was reminded of daily, and a seed of bitterness soon took root and spread throughout the little algolope. When he was old enough to claim a mate, he left his family to trek out on his own.
One day, months after he had left and hundreds of miles from home, the young buck came to a lake deep in the woods. He decided to rest in a crevice for the night before continuing his journey. An abrupt splashing sound had woken him from his slumber, though. The moon was high in the sky, and the air had a distinct chill signaling the coming of the next season. He rose to investigate. When he creeped forward, a large figure leapt from the water, shook itself of the silvery droplets, and proceeded to clean itself under the pale moon. The runt was stopped in his tracks, heart unbeating, breath undrawn, at the sight of the beautiful Magena. It was at that moment, with the bright light of the moon glistening off the goddess, that the runt fell in love.
Each night she came to the lake to swim and fall asleep under the moon until dawn, and each night, the runt would whisper proclamations of sweet love into her sleeping ear. One night, in great desperation, the algolope began to ask her questions. Sleeply, she replied to him. Now, love can change many things, and unrequited love can drive anyone mad. In the case of the runt, his nature took over. He began to ask her questions about the gods, their powers, their lives ... and Magena, deep in slumber, answered every one of them. By the time the lake began to freeze, the algolope knew all the secrets of the gods. It was on that night that he chose to approach Magena for the first time.
He proclaimed his love for her, which was immediately rejected. The runt's heart, which had been kept warm by the thought of her affections, broke. In the heat of his passion, the algolope began to spew the secrets of the gods to her, then explained how she had been the one to betray them. If she wouldn't grant him her love, he bargained, the least she could do was to grant him a blessing, as his other siblings had been blessed. Magena, furious, cursed the algolope with the ability to shape shift into other algolopes... any breed, any markings... but he could never share his new name or her part in his having obtained the gods' secrets. As long as his name, and her part, were kept secret, he would live and be able to change his identity. The one thing that never changes with Uakho (oo-ah-koe), though, is the green and blue storm in his eyes, and the only one still living that knows his true form is Magena.
