Dapple

(DpDp/nDp) Dapple

Dapple adds small salt like markings on the coat of the animal, often a few shades lighter than the base coat. Revese Dapple turns the spots to a darker color than the base pelt.

These markings can be large or small, but must always be lighter than the base coat.

Dapple can cover up to 50+% of the animal in recessive form, and the almost the entirety of the body in dominant form. Dapple must not present itself as reverse dapple, where spots are darker than the coat. All coat color modifiers, such as Fade, Soot, Roan, Pangare, etc go underneath dapple spotting. Spotting can be limited to just the shoulder, rump, or flanks, but must not spread to the face without double allele. 

(nDp) Single Allele

A nDp carrier must have at least 3 spots at minimum somewhere in the maximum range. Dapple does not need to fully fill this area and can have a fade into the coat or a low opacity.

(DpDp) Dominant
In double allele expression of Dapple, the dapples can show on the face, front of neck and a bit farther out of the usual range. Dapples can be widespread and have varying opacity to the coat.

Variation:

Dapple can fade into the coat, near the belly and flanks of the hind leg.

• Dapple sits above most markings but underneath white marks.

• Dapple should follow the form and not look stamped on.

• Dapple can be affected by reversal and appear dark in coloration instead of lighter than what it sits on.

• Dapple when paired with soot creates a reverse dapple look, where the dapple cuts holes in the soot marking.

• Dapple colors from the Natural Accents Slider as long as the color is natural to the coat and 'lighter' than the base color. Dapple should not be overly saturated.
