Quote (Hierarchy)

Project Brief

Every Monday Andrea Johnson, who runs Fort's social media channels, posts a Motivational Monday quote (see the example on the right).

Requirements:

  • Create hierarchy by size

  • School appropriate quote and person

  • Use Fort colors: Red, Black, White, Gray

Optional:

  • Use Fort fonts

  • Use the example format (on right)

Andrea will give the student(s) who created the Motivational Monday graphic a shout-out on Fort's social media accounts when she posts.

Copy Illustrator Template

  1. Go to the Quote template

  2. If you aren't already signed in to Adobe, click "Sign in" in the top right corner.

  3. Click "Copy to Files"

  4. Open the Creative Cloud desktop app.

  5. Rename: Right-click on the file and click "Rename" to add your last name to the start:

    • "Last Name, Quote"

  6. Open: Right-click and click "Open"

  7. Workspace: Adjust your workspace (go to "Window" > "Workspace" > "Essentials Classic")

Find a Quote

  1. Google quotes by your favorite famous people.

  2. Pick one motivational quote that is school appropriate. The person who said it also needs to be school appropriate.

  3. Copy ("Ctrl" + "C") the quote and the name of the person who said it.

Paste & Adjust Text Box + Font

  1. Paste ("Ctrl" + "V") the quote and name in Illustrator

  2. Adjust the text box to be more square: Double-click the white circle on the right side of the text box. This will make the circle filled in and you will be able to adjust the box.

  3. Turn off automatic hyphenation: Click "Paragraph" in the top menu, then un-check the box next to "Hyphenate"

  4. Adjust the font as you wish (use a Fort font or another font): Click "Character" in the top menu and choose a font from the drop-down menu.

Create HIerarchy by size

  1. Double-click the filled-in circle on the right side of the text box. This will freeze the text box and make the circle white again.

  2. Hold down "Shift" and click and drag a corner to adjust the size of the text box so that it fills most of the artboard.

  3. Adjust the font size of the person's name so it is half the size of the quote's font size.

Design

  1. You may use the example format included in the template or design how you like.

  2. Adjust colors (only using Fort colors)

  3. Optional: If you want to change the alignment (ex: center the text), in the top toolbar, next to "Paragraph" there are three options "Alight Left" "Align Center" "Align Right" that you can click.

Export as .PNG

  1. Go to "File" > "Save" to make sure to save your .aic file (if it is grayed out then it is already saved).

  2. Go to "File" > "Export" > "Export As..."

  3. Click "Creative Cloud Files" folder on the left menu

  4. Name: "Last Name, Quote"

  5. Choose ".PNG" from the drop-down menu

  6. Check "Use Artboards"

  7. Click "Export"

  8. In the "PNG Options" popup:

    • Resolution: "Medium (150 ppi)"

    • Background Color: "White"

  9. Click "OK"

Turn in to Canvas

Turn in your .pdf file on Canvas in the "Quote (Hierarchy)" assignment.
