Carnation poster

Project Brief

Thr FFA (Future Farmers of America) club here at Fort is going to be selling carnation flowers on Monday, February 4th. Create a poster that advertises the fundraiser.

Copy Illustrator Template

  1. Go to the Carnation Poster Template

  2. If you aren't already signed in to Adobe, click "Sign in" in the top right corner.

  3. Click "Copy to Files"

  4. Open the Creative Cloud desktop app.

  5. Right-click on the file and click "Rename"

    • "Last Name, Carnation Poster"

  6. Right-click and click "Open"

Adjust Your Workspace

  1. Adjust your workspace (go to "Window" > "Workspace" > "Essentials Classic"


Text - Choose a Font & Move

  1. Make sure you're in the "Text" layer

  2. Hold down shift and click on each text box or click hold and drag to select all of the text.

  3. Click on "Character" at the top and choose a font.

  4. Move the text onto the page. You can adjust where the text is and how big the text is.

    • The minimum text size is 24 pt.

  5. Once you're done editing the text, in the "Layers" window, click the empty square next to "Text" to lock the layer.

Choose a Background Image

  1. Go to the Carnation Photos Google Drive Folder

  2. Choose an image.

  3. Right-click and click "Download"

  4. In your Illustrator file, in the "Layers" window, click the lock next to the "Background Image" layer to unlock it

  5. Open up your "Download" folder on your computer and drag your downloaded image to your Illustrator file.

  6. To zoom out click "Ctrl" and "-"

  7. Hold down "Shift" and use your selection tool to adjust the size of your image to fit the page.

  8. It's ok if your image extends beyond the page - it will be cropped when you export.

Embed Image

  1. Go to "Window" > "Links" to open the "Links" panel.

  2. In the "Links" panel, click on your background image "pexels..." and then click the three lines at the top right and click "Embed Image(s)"

  3. In the "Layers" window, click the empty square next to the "Image" layer to lock it.

Choose a Color

  1. In the "Layers" window, click the lock next to the "Color" layer to unlock it.

  2. Click on the gray rectangle on top of your image.

  3. Double click the black square on the bottom of the left toolbar to open the "Color Picker"

  4. Choose a color.

  5. In the "Layers" window, click the empty square next to the "Color" layer to lock it.

Add the Logos

  1. In the "Layers" window, click the lock next to the "Logos" layer to unlock it.

  2. Move both the yellow FFA logo and red Fort logo onto your poster somewhere.

  3. In the "Layers" window, click the empty square next to the "Logos" layer to lock it.

Add the "Rose Globe" Image

  1. In the "Layers" window, click the lock next to the "Rose Globe Image" layer to unlock it.

  2. Move the rose globe onto your poster near the "Rose Globe Raffle" info.

  3. In the "Layers" window, click the empty square next to the "Rose Globe Image" layer to lock it.

Make it Unique

  1. Now it's time to make your poster unique.

  2. Use other tools in Illustrator to add lines, shapes, illustrations, etc.

Save as .aic and .pdf

  1. Go to "File" > "Save" to make sure to save your .aic file (if it is grayed out then it is already saved).

  2. Go to "File" > "Save As..."

  3. Choose "On your computer"

  4. Click "Creative Cloud Files" folder on the left menu

  5. Name: "Last Name, Carnation Poster"

  6. Click "Save"

  7. Click "Save PDF"

  8. Once you save as a .pdf, exit out of Illustrator. If you need to edit again and resave, make sure to edit your .aic file and re-save as a .pdf.

Turn in to Canvas

  1. Turn in your .pdf file on Canvas in the "Font Final Poster" assignment.
