Font Pairs
Create Illustrator File
Open Adobe Illustrator and create a new "Letter" file.
Name your file "Last Name, Font Pairs"
Letter: 11" x 8.5"
Orientation: Horizontal
Adjust the units to be "Inches"
Artboards: 4
Save as Cloud File
"File" > "Save as..."
Name: "Last Name, Font Pairs"
Make sure to save it as a Cloud file (there will be a cloud icon in your tab and ".aic" at the end).
Adjust Workspace
Adjust your workspace (go to "Window" > "Workspace" > "Essentials Classic"
Create 4 Backgrounds
In your "Layers" panel, rename your "Layer 1" to "Backgrounds"
Click on the "Rectangle tool" in the left toolbar
Click and drag to create 4 rectangles that cover each of your 4 artboards.
Select one and double click the black square on the bottom of the left toolbar to open the "Color Picker"
Pick a color for each background.
Lock your background layer.
Create a Text Layer
In the "Layers" panel, create a new layer by clicking the "+" and name it "Text"
Choose a Font Pair
Sign in to Adobe
Find a font. You can filter by tag, classification, etc. on the left side of the page.
Once you find a font you like, click on it to open the font page. Scroll down until you find the "...font pairings" area.
Once you find a pair that you like, click the slider circle to the right so it turns blue to activate.
Add Text
Use the Type Tool to create a new text box. Type a title word that describes or relates to your font choice.
minimum size: 100 pt.
Highlight your text and click "Character" at the top and type in the name of the main font you chose.
Use the Type Tool to create a second text box. Find a paragraph of text about your title word and copy and paste it into the text box
minimum size: 24 pt.
Highlight your text and click "Character" at the top and type in the name of the other font you chose.
Click "Paragraph" at the top next to "Character" and uncheck "Hyphenate"
Use the Type Tool to create a third text box. Copy and paste the font name and designer name for both fonts
minimum size: 12 pt.
This should be in the font that is the same as your font for the paragraph.
Repeat for each artboard
Choose a new font pair and add text for each of the 3 remaining artboards.
SAVE AS .AIC AND .PDF
Go to "File" > "Save" to make sure to save your .aic file (if it is grayed out then it is already saved).
Go to "File" > "Save As..."
Choose "On your computer"
Click "Creative Cloud Files" folder on the left menu
Name: "Last Name, Font Pairs"
Click "Save"
Click "Save PDF"
Once you save as a .pdf, exit out of Illustrator. (If you need to edit again and resave, make sure to edit your .aic file and re-save as a .pdf.)
Turn in to Canvas
Turn in your .jpg file on Canvas in the "Font Pairs" assignment.
