Assignments/Assessments

All assignments are either formative or summative assessments.

Formative

  • Practice: to monitor learning throughout the unit/lesson.

  • Weight 0 = does not impact grade

Summative

  • Final: to assess your learning over the course of the unit/lesson.

  • Weight 1 = 100% of grade

Standards

This course is graded based on the attainment of standards. Each assessment may cover multiple standards.

Standards Scoring & Rubrics

Standards will each be scored individually on each assessment, based on four-point rubrics. These scores are on the 0-4 point scale.

Rolling Average 75

Each standard will be assessed multiple times throughout the school year. JumpRope assigns progressively decreasing weights to older assessments. In effect, newer assessments automatically "count more" in the overall score. The calculation of a score for a given standard using "Rolling Average 75" is as follows:

  • When only one summative score for the standard exists, this is the standard score.

  • Once two summative scores exist, the newest (i.e. most recent 'due date') score is 75% of the standard score and the other is 25%

  • Once three summative scores exist, the newest score is 75% of the standard score and the value calculated when there were only two scores is 25%

  • Etc.

Schedule

There are schedules and timelines for this course so that students are able to practice (formative assessments) before being assessed summatively on all essential standards.

Missing / Late Work

Assignments/assessments that are missing will be graded as a “M” (formative) or a “0” (summative) until turned in and graded. When graded, the date on which assessments are turned in will not impact scores.

Grading Schedule

Assignments/assessments turned in on time are scored/graded on schedule. There is no guarantee for when grading will happen for late work.

How to Improve Your Grade

Complete All Summative Assessments

Missing summative assessments are scored a “0” for each standard it includes until turned in, which dramatically impacts your grade.

Example: an overall score of 0 on a standard automatically moves your letter grade to a “D” until improved.

Assess Multiple Times

Each standard will be assessed multiple times throughout the school year. Better scores will improve your standard scores.

Reassess

If you have already completed all summative assessments but believe your score on a standard does not accurately reflect your current understanding, you can reassess the standard. The way in which this occurs will depend on the original assessment.

  • Projects can be resubmitted for re-grading.

  • Tests will require new questions to be created, therefore further studying must be shown prior to the request for reassessment.
