Open Adobe Illustrator
Click "Letter"
"File" > "Save as..."
Name: "Last Name, Animal Combo"
Make sure to save it as a Cloud file (there will be a cloud icon in your tab and ".aic" at the end).
Adjust your workspace (go to "Window" > "Workspace" > "Essentials Classic")
Think of two animals and find photos of them online.
Right-click > "Copy image" then in Illustrator: "Edit" > "Paste"
Layer: In your "Layers" panel, rename your "Layer 1" to "Reference"
Template layer: In your "Layers" panel, click on the "Reference" layer and then click on the three bars in the top right and click "Template"
In your "Layers" panel, click the + to create a new layer.
Rename the layer "Drawing"
Look at your two animals.
Think about which parts of each animal you will draw to combine into one animal.
Paintbrush Tool: Click the "Paintbrush Tool" icon on the left toolbar or click "B" on your keyboard.
No Fill: Make sure the "Fill" color is set to "None"
Stroke Color: Double click the stroke/outline box and choose a color.
Brush: In your "Brushes" panel (click the icon in the right toolbar), double click on the first brush and adjust the size to be "Pressure" and change the variation to up to "5 pt" then click "OK" (you can also make it smaller if you want)
Using the "Paintbrush Tool" and your tablet pen, practice drawing forms by tracing the drawing, including the shadows.
In your "Layers" panel, click the rectangle next to the "Reference" layer to hide it.
Select each animal drawing and right-click then click "Group"
Move your animals together and adjust so it makes sense.
You can draw additional lines to make them connect.
Select your combined animal.
Hold down "Shift" and click and drag to increase the size.
Move to center on the board.
Using the "Paintbrush Tool" or the "Type Tool" name your animal and write the animal combo (ex: "Wallee the Monkey-Turtle")
In your "Layers" panel, click the + to create a new layer.
Rename the layer "Background"
Click on the "Rectangle tool" in the left toolbar
Click and drag to create a rectangle that covers your artboard.
Double click the black square on the bottom of the left toolbar to open the "Color Picker"
Choose a color.
Go to "File" > "Save" to make sure to save your .aic file (if it is grayed out then it is already saved).
Go to "File" > "Save As..."
Choose "On your computer"
Click "Creative Cloud Files" folder on the left menu
Name: "Last Name, Animal Combo"
Click "Save"
Click "Save PDF"
Once you save as a .pdf, exit out of Illustrator. If you need to edit again and resave, make sure to edit your .aic file and re-save as a .pdf.
Turn in your .pdf file on Canvas in the "Animal Combo" assignment.
