As Malaysia demonstrates a healthier life expectancy, it reflects a trend of change in the society family structure toward a multi-generation has become the predominant norm. This changes of phenomenal getting apparent in Kampung Cempaka family structures and calls for an immediate study on the socio-cultural change, with the intention of relieve the rising of ageing population and housing crisis in considering of financial factor.
A mid-rise multi-generational housing typology is proposed, offering a diverse use of residential units, functional spaces, and various social interactions to cater for the users from different age groups. High levels of diversity enable multiple groups of people to fill in the needing gaps throughout the living phases of the individual. By offering the most opportunities, the mid-rise typology reinforces the meaning of family as the building scale mandates social interactions.
