Modern architectural styles with large amounts of glass run the risk of over-illumination. The dissonance between recommended lux levels for key interior spaces and sky illuminance also leads to high contrasts in illuminance, causing glare. Lumiere proposes an adaptive strategy in which space, time, or distance is provided to mediate the illuminance levels between key interior spaces and the outdoors, thus allowing visual adaptation to occur.
