Design Thesis | Design of Food Marketplace at Kampung Baru, Kuala Lumpur
The community and a place established a close relationship in creating the identity of an urban area. The community, which is the people, give meaning to the place through the cultural and social reflection where it creates the quality of the place where all built environment elements are associated with meanings as defined by the people. Social and cultural reflections of a place develop sensitivity to certain elements making it to become more meaningful, noticeable and improve placemaking. Through a food marketplace, built environment approach will introduced the means of transforming the urban area into a place with community, cultural and social significance. The food marketplace also create and generate constructive efforts towards the enhancement of placemaking while catering for the community needs for social and cultural space. The approach of this concept are able to build connected community and promote horizontal and vertical community interaction. This study thus attempts to create the connected community by introducing food marketplace as the community hub in Kampung Baru.
