Design Pre-thesis 3 | Sustainable Technologies
Located in Petaling District, Bandar Sunway (or Sunway City) has transformed from former mining to a bustling township, higher education hub and popular meeting place since 1980. Due to its high accessibility to major highways linking to other cities, Bandar Sunway has emerged as a prominent corporate address in the Klang Valley, especially with the presence of highly-glazed office towers such as Sunway Pinnacle and Sunway Geo Tower. With the advance of glazing system, common practice of large glazing area for high-rise office buildings have led to the complaint about glare and visual disturbance from the daylight.
A daylight-driven office building is proposed as a sustainable approach to visual comfort in the tropical climate. A series of daylight design is conducted to identify the most appropriate typology and configuration of external shading device to achieve its optimal functional performance in maintaining indoor daylight quality by addressing the problems of glare and admission of daylight to a room.
