Design Pre-thesis 1 | Social Culture
Agriculture activities have ended in Kampong Bahru even though it is the authentic idea for the people who set up the village early decades ago. Somehow, due to unsuitable soil, limitation to get equipment and bad weather, the plan became complicated and stopped two years later after a big flood hit Kampong Bahru. With the technology and new era of urban farming, the idea to bring in modern living is applied to the proposal of Agro Housing. The aim of this project is to design an agriculture housing that integrating horizontal-vertical farming into a modern housing scheme where it merges with Kampong Bahru identity and its surrounding.
This project target group is elderly people around 50's- 60's who are the genuine legacy of the land and yung generations who are next to be the land owners who work in the KL area. The objectives of this project are definitely to preserve Malay traditional farming culture from the past and blend with rapid modernism into housing schemes. Also to encourage social interactions among the communities through public spaces and agriculture activities where somehow it will benefit them in future. The concept of SYMBIOSIS has been highlighted as being a community where they need to have a physical, social and mental interaction towards urban farming.
