Design Thesis | Selection: Environmental
There are many techniques to dissipate heat in spaces either through passive or active strategies. As to promote sustainability, the passive technique is more suitable as compared to active technique. One of the suitable passive technique as to suit the local context and climate is shading design strategy by screening and filtering the heat from direct solar radiation through vertical greenery systems. The systems are integration of vegetation for the building façade and it is referred to all systems which enable greening a vertical surface.(Manso and Castro-Gomes, 2015). A study shows that vertical greenery systems are not only can reduce heat gain from solar radiation but they also can improve air quality as well as produce cooling effect through evapotranspiration process from the plants.
