Design Thesis | Selection: Social Culture
The first major transition faced by the elderly is retirement. Recent retirees often feel an overall sense of loss such as lack of social interaction, lack of purpose, a feeling they are no longer needed and feeling being disconnected from society. The important factors that can help to keep elderly socially and civically engaged are housing and community.
This paper is part of an extensive research program aiming to establish retirement homes as an accommodation option for retirees within socially inclusive society. The objective of this research are to promote exchange of cultural knowledge within retirees and community, to provide adequate assistance on housing design for socially diverse community and to enhance elderly well being through social interaction.
