Design Pre-thesis 3 | Sustainable Technologies
The co-working space is created as a 24/7 space for its users/consumers. With the building functioning at 24 hours a day, it is bound to consume a lot energy. However, the aim in this design is to maximise the availability of natural daylight in Malaysia is throughout the day and year to reduce energy consumption
To introduce daylighting and distribute it uniformly throughout the building, a semi-enclosed atrium is created in the middle of the floor plan facing the active frontage. Thus, the depth of the floor plan has been reduced and received daylighting evenly. The atrium is then utilised to be the heart of the buildings where it becomes the main spaces (public realm) where social activities happen, people gather/socialise but also connect to the nature (sun/ green spaces) to meliorate the indoor environment/ levels of comfort of the buildings
A skylight is added to protect the atrium from rain but shall also function to bring in daylighting to the center of the building. This shall able the amphitheater to be used throughout day and night consistently.
