Design Pre-thesis 1 | Social Culture
Mixed-income housing based on whether it is mixed at the project level or the neighbourhood level and whether the sponsors/owners are public, private, or a combination of the two (Schwartz and Tajbakhsh, 1996). The residents of Kampung Sungai Kayu Ara who were interviewed generally described low or very low levels of neighbouring, even lacking the ability to name their immediate neighbours. This explains in the decline of interactions and contributed among mobile renters, regardless of their income levels enters as they move more frequently than the owners. The issues are common in urbans area, where he lower income resident are pushed away for the new development; forcing the group to move further to the outskirt of the city centre. This kind of planning creates unbalanced development within the area which result a significant amount of social barrier within these two groups. Therefore, this academic project aims to reduce social barrier by introducing mixed income housing development which includes diverse types with a range of income levels and how architecture can encourage interactions.
