Design Pre-thesis 3 | Sustainable Technologies
In hot and humid climates, efficient natural ventilation strategies could improve ventilation and thermal performance. A sufficient rate of outdoor air exchange to eliminate internal heat gain must be provided to prevent an increase in indoor temperature especially in Bicycle Centre where active occupants are inside. Building envelope acts as a mediator between the external and internal environment and the design should provide adequate insulation and shading from solar radiation whilst allowing air movement inflowing the building. Therefore, the utilization of ventilated double-skin façade (DSF) as building envelope may complement respectively. A study to investigate the potential DSF was carried out. The simulation results were observed in order to study the building form, orientation and width gap of DSF that could induce optimum air velocity and thermal performance in the indoor environment.
