Design Pre-thesis 2 | Urbanism
Kampong Bharu is a village of Malay enclave in the central of city. It is the oldest residential area in Kuala Lumpur. Even though Kuala Lumpur has been modernised, but Kampong Bahru still remain as it is and becoming a living heritage to Malaysia. However, the culture of traditional games and handicraft skills has been slowly forgotten by the younger generation and eliminated by the modern world due to time flies. Modern technology and products are taking over the usage of handicrafts and traditional games. Therefore, the intention of this design proposal is to rejuvenate the traditional games and handicraft skills to local and visitor. Thus, a Wau Center is proposed as a hub of traditional games and innovation through handicrafts for continual business development by entrepreneurs. Wau Center is serving as an artisan landmark of Kampong Bahru and Kuala Lumpur City and at the same time contributes to environmental protection by promoting eco-friendly products innovate from the raw materials to making wau.
