PILIPINO ANIMEYSIYON

An Animated Infomercial Series to Amplify the Visibility of Philippine Animation Among the Filipino Youth in the Urban Areas

Ferris Villanueva

The Filipinos are known to be talented in any art related field but in spite of that, Filipino original animated films and series are not getting enough attention from the local viewers, especially the Filipino youth. The data gathered from interviewed professionals reveal that most Filipino youth are unaware of the Filipino animators behind some of the famous Japanese anime and Western animated films. Filipino animation is alive and thriving although unknown to many because there’s only a few films made to watch and only a few platforms to view and investors won’t risk their money on a film they think will not sell. If it would be possible, an informative visual can be helpful. In social media today, collective artists and animators support their fellow artists and animators by flaunting and advocating each other. This is now a way to communicate to their audiences. Sharing information about the history, pioneers, and achievements of Filipino animation can help the Filipinos better understand the industry. The videos or films that we watch everyday have a powerful impact and influence on people.

Pilipino Animeysiyon aims to give both information and entertainment about to the audience and to support Filipino animators and everyone in the animation pipeline. Some people are not aware of the existence of our own Filipino animation industry, so what better way to tell them about it than to present them the history of Philippine animation and how its spirit is very much alive today in a way that will be informative and at the same time will entertain them through visuals. With the internet today, it is easier to communicate to the audience through social media or visual media and collective artists and animators support each other by flaunting and supporting each other. It will also hopefully help the Filipino animators to be known to people not just as service providers but also as creators.

Ferris is an illustrator, practicing character animation and visual development. She aspires to become an animator and is eager to learn more about the art of animation.
