A NONDESIGNER'S VISUAL DESIGN LEARNING KIT

A Learning Kit Aimed at Developing Visual Literacy for UP College of Fine Arts’ and other Government Institutions’ Nondesigner Personnel

Danie Figueroa

The UP CFA is an example that their personnel have a significant impact on their visual identity on its media. The problems such as unupdated publication materials, official websites, no branding guidelines, and personnel with limited visual communication knowledge hold back the institution from fully showing their prestige on their media and they lag behind other competing art and design colleges and universities. It all comes down to the artistry and capacity of an organization’s personnel to determine how it, as a whole, presents itself to its audience.

This is why “A Nondesigner’s Visual Design Learning Kit” was made, so that nondesigner personnel can learn graphic design and develop visual literacy through a learning material that is catered to them--saving them all the hassle of enrolling and paying for classes or enduring an intimidating design book. This learning kit is available in a print-ready PDF document which can be viewed on any device or printed on letter size papers, up to their preference, so they can learn in whichever way they’re most comfortable with. They can learn about visual communication, visual design, the basics, how they are applied by designers and how they themselves can try too, and be assessed using special beginner-friendly rubrics, all to explore their creativity all while enjoying the stimulating material. This would not only help them in their jobs but would also help them grow as artists altogether.

Danie is a graphic designer/artist who wants to encourage learning, practicing, and appreciating visual design, and enjoys creating art that stimulates her viewers.
