ALPHAPET: YOUR PRIMARY LEARNING BLOCKS ON PET CARE

A Proposed Mobile Application Software for Pet Adoption and Pet Parenting

Analyn Robliado

To stem the tide of impounded animals being euthanized, tens of thousands of them are rehabilitated or rescued by animal welfare groups or shelters. Since the pandemic, the stray animal overpopulation continues to soar at fourteen-million. Rescuing and sheltering the innocent victims of abandonment and cruelty should be recognized as short-term solutions only. In addition, shelter and shelter animals that are mostly aspins or puspins, seem to bear a negative tone. Hence, this research aims to find out why adoption rates in the Philippines yield to be low when all agree that every pet deserves a home considering the level of attachment of Filipino pet owners to their companion animals. Through this study, the researcher presents results from quantitative surveys and virtual interviews to draw the perception of the respondents classified as single, Filipino millennials, current and potential pet owners regarding pet adoption, animal shelters, and the stereotypical image of the native breeds.

Proposed solution would translate into a pet adoption and care campaign highlighting the possible needs and concerns of both current and potential pet owners. The goal of the campaign is to have people on board with the advocacy that we must do our part because this is something we are responsible for. Stray animals are the result of abandonment, cruelty, and ignorance. Therefore, responsible pet ownership should be awakened in the consciousness of Filipinos by guiding and providing them accessible information and resources regarding pet care.
