Mauritius presents unique geotechnical and environmental challenges that influence piling design and execution: topography, soil conditions, loading environmental sensitivity, resources and expertise, material availability and construction access. Piling is critical for structural stability, especially in challenging soil conditions. The guest lecture related mainly to understanding through case studies of the fundamental of piling in construction and; the challenges and innovations in piling technology. As part of the Geotechnical Engineering modules, aspects of site investigation and design considerations were also explained to the students reading for the level THREE of the BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering programme. The event reinforces the relationship between industry and academia, creating a dynamic platform for knowledge exchange and professional growth. By engaging with experienced engineers, students and faculty gain practical insights that bridge the gap between theoretical learning and real-world application. This collaboration not only enriches academic understanding but also cultivates innovation and readiness for the evolving demands of the construction and engineering sectors.
