On Thursday 03 July 2025, the University of Mauritius (UoM) had the honour of hosting Ms Kartina Tahir Thomson, President of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA), United Kingdom for an official academic visit.
During her visit, Ms Thomson met with Professor Sanjeev K. Sobhee, the Vice-Chancellor and members of the academic staff of the faculty to review recent developments in the IFoA-accredited BSc (Hons) Actuarial Studies programme and to explore opportunities for enhanced collaboration between the University of Mauritius and the IFoA.
She also addressed FSSH students and lecturers at a session organised by the UoM Students and Alumni Actuarial Society (USAAS) in collaboration with the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities in the Lecture Theatre 2.
Ms Thomson shared insights from her professional journey and her vision as IFoA President. Emphasising public interest, international cooperation, and the preparation of future actuaries, her address was followed by an engaging question-and- answer session.
Since 2019, the University of Mauritius has held full IFoA accreditation for its undergraduate actuarial programme, placing UoM among a select group of institutions worldwide to achieve this recognition. The University is pleased to announce that the accreditation has recently been renewed for a further period of five years (2025–2030), reaffirming the programme’s continued excellence and alignment with international professional standards.
