The event “Shuttling Hope, Inspiring Futures” - An Initiation to Badminton and AirBadminton" for the children of the SOS Children's Village was successfully held on Saturday 08 November 2025 at the University of Mauritius Sports Complex. This initiative forms part of the UoM 60th Anniversary Celebrations and was organised by the University of Mauritius Badminton Staff Club, under the aegis of the University Staff Club, it’s aim was to offer an inspiring and enriching sports experience to the children of the SOS Children’s Village,
in line with the University’s ongoing commitment to community engagement and social responsibility. We received around 15 to 20 children from the SOS Children’s Village, with 15 University Staff Volunteers helpers including the Coach, Mr. together and Aatish Lubah, who took part in a day filled with joy, energy and discovery. The activities included badminton and air badminton sessions, fun games and friendly matches, which was mainly designed and supervised by Mr Lubah, to promote teamwork, perseverance and self-confidence.
Mr. Heerun Goolap, Chief of Facilities at the University of Mauritius, emphasized the importance of perseverance and discipline as key values both in sports and in life.
Professor (Dr.) Henri Li Kam Wah, President of the University Staff Club, traced the origins of the project, commending the initiative as laudable and calling for more such projects in the future.
Mme Fibiola Le Clair, Fund Development Manager at SOS Children’s Village, painted an insightful picture of the history and mission of the SOS movement, highlighting its vital role in nurturing and protecting children.
Mme Hafeeza Mamoojee Khatib, representing CDL Ltd, underscored the transformative power of education and the belief in every child’s potential for success.
