In the context of its 60th Anniversary Celebrations, the University of Mauritius (UoM) initiated a Logo Design Competition among its Students to create a specific logo to mark this momentous milestone.
Led by the Faculty of Information, Communication and Digital Technologies (FoICDT) with the strong support of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSH) and the Centre for Innovative and Lifelong Learning (CILL), the Logo Competition was open to all UoM students.
The objective of the competition was to unveil the best design of a logo to mark the Diamond Jubilee of the University of Mauritius. Participation was either individual or in a team of two members. The competition was launched on 22 May 2025 with explicit guidelines. 15 submissions were received by the deadline of 19 June 2025. It is noteworthy to mention that students across different Faculties, CILL and the Mahatma Gandhi Institute (MGI) participated in the competition. The competition was an opportunity to uncover students’ talent and skills, and the portfolios and videos submitted clearly manifested the dedication and a sense of belonging to the University.
The Jury Panel, which consisted of Members from FoICDT, FSSH, CILL and MGI, concurred that all the submissions were praiseworthy. The winning logo was the one designed by Miss Sveta Ramchurun, student of BA(Hons) Media Arts from MGI. In her portfolio, Miss Ramchurun mentioned that she wanted to create a “visual identity that honours UoM's roots while reflecting progress, diversity, and innovation”. She also stated that “This logo is more than a visual, it is a narrative. It honours the University of Mauritius’s 60 years long journey by weaving together symbols that represent every facet of its past, present, and future”.
An Award Ceremony is scheduled in September 2025 to reward the winner and to acknowledge the good designs presented by the other participants. We will elaborate on this in due course!
The winning logo is now being extensively used across the university, for activities being organised in commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of UoM.
