Celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the University of Mauritius

Faculty of Science Quiz Competition

In honour of the celebration of the Diamond Jubilee of the University of Mauritius, an exciting quiz competition was organized by the Faculty of Science, the very first of its kind at the University of Mauritius.

The competition aimed to foster team building, knowledge, collaboration, and excitement among students of the different department of the Faculty. 24 participants competed in 8 teams of three [3], with each group constituted randomly to ensure at least one [1] student from each department of the Faculty of Science. The participants tackled diverse questions spanning various scientific disciplines, including Biosciences, Ocean Sciences, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and also general knowledge about the university of Mauritius. The first round took place on the 1st October 2025, the Second round occurred on the 19 November 2025 and the Grand Finale was scheduled on the 3rd December 2025, giving the participants enough time to prepare themselves.

Prizes (cash prizes and shields) and certificates were awarded by the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Assoc Prof P Nunkoo Gonpot and Mr H Goolap to the top teams (Winner Team and Runner up Team). This competition not only showcased the brilliance and scientific curiosity of our students but also the excellence and innovation that have been the hallmark of our beloved University.

The members of the organising committee chaired by Assoc Prof Roshan T Ramessur acknowledged and expressed its gratitude to everyone who invested themselves in making the competition smooth, fair and enjoyable for every participant. Both Ms S Burkutally, Uni60 Committee Secretary and Assoc Prof P Caumul were Master of Ceremony and Quiz Master respectively.

Assoc Prof R Lollchand, Assoc Prof A Gopaul and Ms G Fazelkhan were in the Quiz Monitoring Panel whereas Dr N Rughoonauth gave the vote of thanks.
