The Ferney Mangrove Forest came alive on the 25th of June 2025 as over 130 passionate students, 20 locals and several high personalities participated in a large-scale cleanup and awareness drive. This meaningful initiative was spearheaded by the Agricultural Society in collaboration with the Faculty of Agriculture and the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA). The event was further honoured by the presence of The Honourable Hambyrajen Narsinghen, Junior Minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade and Professor Sanjeev Sobhee, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mauritius, who both applauded the students’ commitment to environmental conservation.
To ensure a smooth and comfortable experience for all participants, various facilities were provided, including free transport from the university to the site and back and essential protective gear such as gloves and boots. The event also attracted significant media coverage, with the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) and other media outlets present to document the occasion. The day highlighted the importance of preserving vital ecosystems like the Ferney Mangrove Forest, while fostering a sense of environmental responsibility among the youth.
