The Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at the UoM, in collaboration with the Gender Equality Foundation, hosted the Gender-Based Violence Summit 2024 on Tuesday, December 17th, 2024 as part of the global 16 Days of Activism following the theme “Having Men as Allies”.
The idea behind this theme was to shift the narrative and focus on men as essential allies in the fight against gender-based violence.
By addressing the root causes of violence and encouraging men to take an active role in fostering a safer, more equitable society, the summit sought to drive meaningful change.
The event was graced by Dr the Hon. Arvin Boolell, G.O.S.K., Minister of Agro-Industry, Food Security, Blue Economy, and Fisheries; Junior Minister of Gender Equality and Family Welfare, Hon. Anishta Babooram; the founder of Gender Equality Foundation, Mrs. Bali, Members from the UoM and representatives from various governmental and non-governmental agencies.
Distinguished guests emphasized the critical role of youth in shaping the future, stressing the importance of providing platforms to amplify their voices.
