I will be using this website to organize learning materials for your child's use during our adventure in distance learning. Please contact me directly through email or text if you need help accessing something, have a question, or need help with an assignment. You can also reach out to tech@thesummitprep.org for technology assistance.
Sincerely,
Marissa Bradley
Each day's learning plans will be linked below and in the website menu.
Feel free to complete the daily activities in any order or at any time of day that works best for your family.
Learning plans will be posted by 9 am each morning (or sooner).
I will do my best to respond promptly to emails and/or text messages between the hours of 8:45 am - 3:30 pm on weekdays. If you would like to chat via phone call, please email me to schedule a time.
Each day's learning plans will have activities marked as "Important" and "Supplemental." I am asking that all families do their best to complete all important activities. If you are having trouble meeting these requirements, please let me know as soon as you can so that I can do my best to assist you.
It will be important for an adult to act as a facilitator of learning. Kindergarten students will need help navigating and understanding activities and new concepts, as well as real-time encouragement, feedback, and positive reinforcement.
It will also be important for an adult to help Kindergarten students self-regulate when possible by encouraging them to try tough things in creative ways and help their brains “grow stronger.” We have discussed having a growth mindset in our classroom many times, and students will be familiar with the encouragement to “grow your brains” and “connect your neurons!”
Social and emotional needs are just as important as cognitive needs. Daily activities for your child to stay connected with me and their classmates will be included.
Each day, students will have the opportunity to join me and any available students for a group video conference via Zoom from 1:00-1:30 p.m.
Please check out this link for assistance in getting Zoom set up on your device, recommendations, and class norms.
Reliable internet access and a device to access online materials (laptop or tablet recommended).
General school supplies including paper, pencil, crayons, scissors, glue, etc.
Please note: I have done my best to plan learning activities that don’t require unique materials, but, if a lesson references something you do not have, feel free to adapt the activity as you are able. Some supplemental materials require printing. If you do not have access to a printer, feel free to adapt the activity as you see fit or move on to something else.
Choose a dedicated learning area in your home to gather general school supplies for ease of access.
If your child (or you) get frustrated, take a break from the activity, and try again later. In our classroom, we often turn the negative phrase “I can’t do it” into the positive phrase “I can’t do it, yet!”
Consider planning intentional time for “off-screen” activities. Creative pursuits, physical challenges, exploring nature, reading, building, games, cooking, puzzles (and more!) will be just as important for your child's overall well-being.
The specials team will also be sharing activities for students to complete. I will plan to share these activities within each day’s learning plans.
We will follow the same weekly schedule for specials, as follows:
Spanish: daily
Art: Wednesdays and Fridays
Music: Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays
P.E.: Tuesdays and Thursdays
Thank you to those of you who were able to submit feedback via the distance learning survey sent out at the start of this week. We are so thankful for your input! If you haven’t yet or weren’t able, please know that you are welcome to provide feedback to us at any time. As educators, we are accustomed to being responsive to students’ needs through continuous observation and progress monitoring. Although teaching and learning may look different during Distance Learning, we are still committed to providing the best education we can for your child. The purpose of this email is to highlight some of the revisions we will be making to streamline things across our grade level team (K/1/2), address feedback from the family survey, and hopefully, continue best supporting each family.
Weekly Overview: A weekly overview will be sent to families each Friday with the following week’s content areas.
Any assignments that need to be submitted will be highlighted in yellow on the Weekly Overview.
Daily learning activities may consist of required, supplemental, and to be submitted. Although not all assignments will be submitted, teachers will assume your child is engaged and completing their school work to the best of their ability unless otherwise notified.
Estimated Daily Times: Learning activities will include an indicator of approximate time to complete. Although it is an estimation on our part, if your child is consistently taking much longer or is much quicker than the time frame given, please reach out to your classroom teacher to let them know.
Weekly Report: Classroom teachers will send an email at the end of each week, noting which required (highlighted in yellow) assignments were or were not completed/turned in.
Finish-It Friday: Students are asked to complete unfinished work from throughout the week on Friday.
Teacher Time: Classroom teachers will offer “Teacher Time” by appointment during designated times throughout the week. If your child would like to meet with their teacher for 15 minutes to ask questions about an assignment, share their work, or celebrate their successes, please email your classroom teacher to select a day/time slot. A parent/guardian must be present or nearby during the meeting.
Mrs. Bradley: 10:00-11:00 am, M-F
Daily Q&A: At the end of every class meeting, teachers will ask if there are any questions about daily assignments. This is a great time for your child to ask any lingering questions about their schoolwork.
We will continue to monitor student successes, challenges, and feedback throughout the duration of Distance Learning. This will likely not be the last communication from us as we continue learning more and more about what works well and what does not.
