Good morning, Kindergarten!
Today during STEM time, you will be challenged to build a structure that can support a can of food! Remember to use your growth mindset when approaching difficult tasks!
Our Zoom class meeting will include a new game, called "Who's Who!" If you haven't yet, please fill out this Google Form to help me get ready for the game. Hope to see you there!
Today makes 138 days of Kindergarten!
Love,
Mrs. Bradley
Estimate: 20 minutes
Math Warm-Up: Roll 2 (or more) dice and practice adding the numbers together. Write the number sentence to match. Do this at least 3 times to warm up your brain!
Today's Lesson: Rewatch this video with Mrs. Bradley to review several important things about reading clocks to the hour or the "o'clock." Today you're going to practice reading and writing time to the hour by completing a TIME SCAVENGER HUNT! Ask an adult to cut apart these clocks and hide them around your room/house. (If you don't have access to a printer, draw analog clocks showing various times "on the hour" to hide around the house).
Practice: Your job is to hunt for the analog clocks and write the digital time to match! Don't forget to pay special attention to the hour hand! Good luck!
Challenge (not required): On Time Digital Game
Estimate: 15 minutes
ABC Warm-Up: You will need a timer for 1 minute! If you don't have one, you can use this digital timer. The slide deck linked to the left has upper and lowercase letters mixed in. Your job is to name the letters. Try to get through all of them before your time runs out!
Phonemic Awareness: Today you will again work to listen and distinguish which 2 of the 3 words are rhyming. Listen along with Mrs. Bradley!
Phonics: Think about the CK poster you made earlier this week. Click through and read the CK words in the linked deck. Now, get ready to take your CK assessment! Number a piece of paper 1-6 and write your name at the top. Listen to Mrs. Bradley to hear the words you need to stretch out and spell. Remember to pause the audio if you need more time to write!
See what others are up to! Click on our class Padlet and add a picture of you or comment on your friends' pictures!
Read-to-Self: Read books that are "just right" for you... not too hard and not too easy. You may use the books Mrs. Bradley sent home with you, other books at your house, or Kids A-Z (Raz Kids) books by logging in on the iPad or computer. Read for at least 15 minutes.
Estimate: At least 15 minutes
Handwriting: Choose a person in your family to write a note to. Find a piece of paper, and using your best Summit handwriting, carefully form the letters to create the words in your letter. Hide the note in a special place for them to find it later!
Estimate: 5 minutes
Estimated: 15 minutes
Continue our study of Doreen Cronin by watching along with this story, Giggle, Giggle, Quack.
After you're done listening, think about the characters in the story. Choose one to focus on. Did you like or dislike the character? What did they look like? Did you like their personality? What characters do you think might be in the next story we read by Doreen Cronin?
Estimate: 15 minutes
Instead of using DanceMat Typing, our class will begin working with TypingClub. TypingClub is an educational program that will help students learn to type quickly and accurately on a standard computer keyboard. It also allows students to track their progress and it breaks the typing skills into smaller, more manageable lessons. Also, it supports the use of an app! Click here for iPad app instructions.
To log in to your child's TypingClub account, go to the following login URL:
Your child's username is their first name in lowercase letters. For example, my username would be "marissa".
LEAVE THE PASSWORD FIELD BLANK! Then you should be able to get started typing!
Estimate: 10 minutes+
I've got a tricky (but fun!) challenge for you today! Your building challenge is to build a bridge that can hold a single can of food. You can use any materials that you have at your house. Good luck!! If you would like, share a picture of your bridge on our class Padlet!
If you want to keep going...
Can your bridge hold two cans?
Can you make a taller bridge that still supports a single can?
How about a bridge using a set number of blocks, or blocks paired with an unusual material (maybe fabric for the center)?
Have fun!
For Juego Jueves (game Thursday), we’re going back to Rockalingua and practicing springtime vocabulary through the memory game option! As you click each card to try to find its pair, the vocabulary word is said out loud for additional exposure, so make sure your volume is turned up. There’s three different levels: easy, normal and difficult. Start with easy and work your way up. You can also try out the “drag and match” game mode, but I found that “concept race” may be a little too advanced for this age group. Login info:
